IT’S JANUARY: AM I STRESSED OUT?
It’s January, 2011. Actually, it’s mid-January. A post-holiday time when I am house-bound by wintry weather, giving me time for rest and recuperation. So why am I so stressed out? I could be, because of the number of in-house accomplishments that I expect to complete.
- Cleaning: holiday decorations, clutter, sorting through sixteen boxes of assorted papers, kitchen cabinets
- Photography: converting many slides to JPG; sorting pictures and the converted slides into accessible files; preparing photographs for upcoming photography shows
- Writing: Finishing my historic romance novel, a short story, keeping up with five blogs, a facilitating a writers group
- Physical fitness: I’m exercising daily on an elliptical machine, and my knees are improving as I am able to work on this equipment longer each week.
As I said, I could be stressed out. But I’m not. The November/December holiday season has ended. It’s the time of year I am laid back, working away at the above types of projects while snowed in and hibernating. Yes, I am catching up! What I need to do is go to the YMCA to use their fitness room and pool three times a week…but why break my hibernation?
But more important, I realize I will never be caught up—only reasonably progressing. The slides are, as far as I can tell, copied. I am plugging away at the book and the short story. The photographs will be sorted. I’ve already almost filled a laundry basket with scrap paper. And Monte is hiring a friend to help clean cupboards and other spring cleaning.
No the work isn’t visible. Perhaps I’m the only one who is experiencing the progress—or the lack of it. But I am not stressed out—yet. That will come if I experience a lack of significant progress when the weather breaks and I no longer have an excuse to hibernate.
