HIS HIGHNESS, PUNXSUTAWNEY PHIL
Just because Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, lays claim to the most famous groundhog of all, doesn’t mean that other groundhogs don’t exist. They are simply overshadowed by His Highness, Phil. A lesser creature, Indy-Andy, will make an appearance at a Groundhog Day breakfast being served this morning at St. Andrew’s Village in Indiana, Pennsylvania, a short distance from Punxsutawney. I wonder if Indy-Andy is a poor relation to His Highness?
I wonder how many of the groundhogs in Southwestern Pennsylvania have personality complexes because they don’t have the stature and reputation of His Highness. Undoubtedly, they do more service
to their ilk than His Highness does, since His Highness is so pampered. If he should ever be set out in the wilderness, would he be able to survive as well as his lesser counterparts? Has he had the growth experiences that make him strong in the weak places?
Whatever—today is his day—and with the bleak weather, I doubt he will see his shadow—predicting that spring will arrive soon (if he does see his shadow, winter will last another six weeks, and I’d bet that many, many persons will be upset with His Highness).
Good luck, Punxsutawney Phil, in the singular task that is your purpose in life!

Did you read about Stroudsburg, PA? They are using a stuffed groundhog because their groundhog died last year and they haven’t found a replacement.
