CELEBRATE MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY 2011

It’s that time of year…sluggish… rest and recuperation time. Then comes a reminder that Martin Luther King was so not sluggish that he lost his life while encouraging others to celebrate life, to become free.

Shaunda Miles stated it succinctly in a Greensburg Tribune-Review article: I think people could tend to have that feeling ‘I’m just going to stay in the house.’ This is the time…to come out and dialogue with other people, and remind ourselves that we are a nation that faces a lot of tragedy, but we are overcomers.”*

Perhaps I’ll get off my duff’ and attend an event, as Monte and I did in 2009 when we heard, among others, the 2004 Miss America—Erika Dunlap—speak. Had we stayed home that night we would have missed a great opportunity.
