Protect Yourself: Photocopy the Cards in Your Wallet

PROTECT YOURSELF:

PHOTOCOPY THE CARDS IN YOUR WALLET

That time of year has passed—and my husband Monte and I haven’t done our “assigned task.”

That is, the first month of 2011 is now history. Our task is  to make our annual copy of all our credit cards, membership cards, store cards, updating our records in the event our wallets are lost or stolen, or our identity is stolen.

It isn’t that difficult a task, but it could be an invaluable one. If you’ve ever had the above negative events occur, you know exactly what I mean.

Unfortunately, it did happen to us—rather, it happened to Monte. We were on a visit to Munich, Germany, during which Monte took a trip with our son Nolan, whom we were visiting. They visited several sites while I remained in Munich, enjoying visiting the city on my own.

While on a train in Prague, there was a scuffle. Later, Monte realized his wallet was missing. His driver’s license, credit cards, passport, a couple hundred dollars. I’m not going to say I’d warned him to leave the unnecessary items in Nolan’s apartment, and conceal the others. What matters is that he didn’t—and he lost his wallet.

Fortunately, our daughter Sandra made the necessary calls to replace some of the items, and to close the credit cards. By the time we returned home, Monte had a newly issued driver’s license.

I believe I once lost my wallet—the time and circumstances are in the dark recesses of my mind. I do recall the hassle of trying to regain my lost information.

We know the value of copying the items in our wallets. Why we procrastinate is beyond me. Perhaps we can do the task before the Super Bowl game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers this Sunday, February 6.

Perhaps, while I’m at it, I should change the passwords on all my computer accounts. Just a precaution.

I hope I can accomplish this task before the game. Perhaps you could do the same to protect yourself.

Don’t forget—photocopy both the front and backs of each card!
