HUNGARIAN CARNIVAL IN DARLINGTON, PA

A witch hung over the bar, cackling while joining funeral grievers in laughter.

During the service, the pastor’s assistants kicked, screamed at, and otherwise disrespected the body of the victim—Old Man Winter, who was being booted out to make way for Youthful Spring. The occasion was Darlington, Pennsylvania’s first Hungarian Carnival, held at the Darlington Inn.

Begone with you! We don't want you anymore!

The corpse was carried out of the Darlington Inn to the stream bank across the road…

     …where it was BURNED, dead.

Burn, baby, burn.

After the burning, the attendees, including my husband Monte and myself, returned to the restaurant to feast on Hungarian dishes—recipes from Transylvania.

Good food...

During the meal, an accordion player entertained with lively music.

Polka, anyone? Or a good Italian song? How about an Irish jig?

Which he continued to play while people conversed lively and danced merrily.

Hook elbows and sway to the music.

Dance, baby, dance!

And a good time was had by all. Kudos  to the organizers of this event. We are looking forward to attending next year.
