PUNISHMENT OR DISCIPLINE?

     In parenting, a person must differentiate between PUNISHMENT and DISCIPLINE.

     Basically, punishment can be equated with control and discipline can be equated with guidance.

     If control is the end goal, then when the child becomes big enough, he will attempt (oftentimes successfully) to take control.

     With punishment, development is determined externally through others; with discipline, it is gradually determined internally through self. The following quote says much:

Discipline without love is tyranny;

Love without discipline is anarchy.
