The Spiral of Life…

CAROLYN’S DAILY POSTS: 2011

THE SPIRAL OF LIFE…

“It finally happened,” my friend Fred from Alabama said.

Fred, a.k.a. Phredfred the Clown, has been a friend of the family since we lived in Atlanta, Georgia, between 1982-1985. He calls on a regular basis. He reminded me that he was in his twenties, and my son Nolan, who took clown classes, accompanied him on a gig in Atlanta when he was twelve. Both now are parents, Fred having almost adult children while my son has young boys.

Last night he began our conversation with “It finally happened.”

     “What happened,” I asked.

“While I was making balloons for a girl her mother said ‘You made balloons for me when I was a child.”

It happens to us all. I hold the babies of the children who were in my family child care home way back in the olden days.

It happens. We meet and greet the children of the children we knew, and, for those who live long enough, we meet and greet the grandchildren of the children we knew. When these incidents happen, they remind us that we all walk along the journey of life, behind those ahead of us, leading those behind us. We are all a part of the circle—or, as I prefer, the spiral, of life. We all are born, we join with our fellow human beings, and we all die. It’s what we do while on the journey that counts.

So Fred, welcome to the new phase of your journey in life. There are many riches yet to come.
