NUMBER OF WAYS TO ARRANGE

TEN BOOKS ON A SHELF

How many ways can you arrange ten books on a shelf?

During our careers my husband and I accumulated approximately two thousand five hundred books. We have removed at least thirty-two boxes of books, mostly donating them to a local library sale.

A bit of trivia about owning just ten books caught my eye:

 There are 3,628,800 different ways you could arrange ten books on a shelf—10 x 9 x 8x 7 x6 x 5 x 4 x 3 x 2 x 1. 3,628,800.*

If you make it twenty books it’ll go up to trillions.*

I don’t understand the mathematics, but the idea is intriguing. Just food for thought…and I wonder, how many ways can two thousand five hundred books be arranged?
