ONE LORD

Jumonville Cross: Dunbar Knob, Pennsylvania

 

     A sixty-foot high cross sits 2495 feet above sea level atop Dunbar Knob, on the Chestnut Ridge above Uniontown, Pennsylvania, the site of a Christian Camp and Retreat Center. The knob offers a great view of Uniontown. The view from the knob goes beyond Uniontown to. On clear days, the view include three states and seven counties, and extends up to fifty miles . It was dedicated on September 9, 1950.

     The site has historical significancein May of 1754, before the French and English were at war, George Washington and some Indians, led an attack on the French camped at the Knob. In the skirmish, a French Colonel, Jumonville, was killed. This ignited the French and Indian War.
