2011 Quirky Calendar Math

This should have been a January 1, 2011 post. Better late than never!     Just a little math fun for the day.

Try this: take the last two digits of the year of your birth, and add to it the age you will become (or have become) on you 2011 birthday.

     I’m waiting.

Without knowing your personal information, I bet I can tell you the answer: 111. Everyone born in the 20th century will come up with the same answer. For example, my mother was born in 1922. She would have turned 89 on her February 12th birthday.

Add 22 plus 89—what is the sum? 111.

The number one plays a prominent role in the 2011 calendar:

  •  1/1/11
  • 1/11/11
  • 11/1/11
  • 11/11/11

     Finally: October, 2011, has

  • five Sunday
  • five Mondays
  • five Saturdays.

This happens only every 823 years.

Final question: Will these days produce a mini-baby boom? Only time will tell.
