How to Clean Moss Off Your Roof

CAROLYN’S DAILY POSTS: 2011

HOW TO CLEAN MOSS OFF YOUR ROOF

Our community, in a foothill of Laurel Mountain, Pennsylvania, is surrounded by streams and filled with large trees. The humidity, as a result, is higher than it would be in a city. It is the perfect growing atmosphere for moss, which can be seen on many “cottage” roofs.

One of these roofs is on our garage.

Apparently, there is something that will remove the moss. My husband and I haven’t tried it, but, since it is environmentally friendly, we should.

All that is necessary is to spray a mixture of three parts white vinegar and one part water on the moss*. That’s it.

It will take time for results to show. The moss should turn brown but will not fall off until strong winds, snow or driving rain dislodges it.*
