Your Home is the Safest Place to Be…or is it?

YOUR HOME IS THE SAFEST PLACE TO BE…OR IS IT?

Your home is your castle. It’s touted as a person’s safest haven. Add onto this belief is another belief: small towns offer an additional layer of safety.

For the Cass family in Stewartstown, New Hampshire, these beliefs proved untrue. When they woke up on July 26, 2011, eleven-year-old Celina Cass was nowhere to be found. She was last seen the evening before, around 9:00 p. m., working on her computer.

There was no sign of a struggle.

Her body was discovered August 1 in a river less than half a mile from her home. An autopsy was inconclusive as to the cause of her death.

How is it that a child can become missing like this? How many children are taken from their homes while sleeping, from their yards while playing?

No place is safe. That is the nature of, the reality of, life. You walk outside your home and a car hits you. You stay inside your home and an airplane falls from the sky onto you.

Still, eleven years old is too young to die this way. What happened?

How can we be certain to keep our children safe?

We cannot. We can only try. Fortunately, we will succeed most of the time.

Our blessings and thoughts go to the Cass family.
