Weekly Photo Challenge: Broken

CAROLYN’S DAILY POSTS 2011

WEEKLY PHOTO CHALLENGE:  BROKEN

It happened forty-four and a half years after my husband Monte and I purchased our good china set—which had a pale rosebud decoration and a silver rim. Not plain. Not ostentatious.

We used them for a dinner that holiday afternoon.  As I cautioned the dear friend who was washing the dinner plates to be careful, the plate she was washing slipped out of her hands onto the floor. Devastated looks crossed our faces. This was the first piece of this china that was broken.

“You’re angry with me,” she said.

“No,” I responded. “Plates can be replaced. Friendships can’t.”

Thus, for the theme broken, I chose to photograph this plate.

Monte and I will celebrate our forty-fifth anniversary September 3, 2011 minus a dinner plate, but with our friend. Yes, a plate was broken. But our friendship is lasting. Which is more important in the scheme of life.
