A New Frontier: Interstellar Travel

Are you swinging on a star, hands out to make big bucks?

If so, the following competition might just suit you. The prize is one million dollars.

All you have to do is devise a way to live on a new frontier: not swinging on, but creating a way to send people to a star. A way to make interstellar travel possible in about a century.

The U.S. Defense Department, through its new trademarked 100-year Starship Study, will grant seed money to get the idea off the ground in the private sector.

But even the nearest star beyond our sun is 25 trillion miles away. The fastest rocket man has built would take more than 4,000 years to get there. This is not just about thinking new rocket methods…It is also about coping with extended life in space, raising issues of medicine, agriculture, ethics and self-reliance.*

I challenge you to step up and swing on your star. Perhaps you will be the winner of one million dollars. The prize winner will be announced in November.
