The Complex Constitution




      People ask why the Constitution is in a mess and not respected more.

     Thomas Jefferson said that the center of elementary education is the teaching of the rights (and) duties of the Constitution and how to be a good citizen.*

     The Constitution isn’t a cake recipe. It’s not a precise, specific set of instructions for making a democracy. Instead, the great charter is vague enough that Americans have spent the last two hundred twenty-four years arguing about what it means.*

     Today, September 17, 2011, is Constitution Day. Take a few minutes to review what the Constitution says and consider how complex it is.
