Make Your Dream Come True in Pittsburgh, Pa.

You’re 45 years old or older, live more than 100 miles from Pittsburgh (that’s anywhere in the United States), and you want to move to Pittsburgh.

If you also have a dream for which you see possibilities, this is the contest for you. It bears a $100,000 prize.

“The heart of the contest is to encourage people to research Pittsburgh further,” said Frederick Thieman, president of The Buhl Foundation. “People who take a closer look at Pittsburgh will be interested in checking it out further.”

To enter, contestants must say, as creatively as they can in 250 words or less, why they’d like to live here.

Entry forms are available online at . The deadline to enter is Dec. 16.

Pittsburghers will have a say in choosing the winner, Bannon said. After the entries are whittled down to the best five or so, the public will vote on its favorite.

The winner receives a $50,000 cash prize along with a $50,000 charitable trust on the condition of relocating to Pittsburgh and beginning to pursue his or her dream by the end of 2012.

Experienced Dreamers LLC is presenting the contest. Foundations and civic groups have teamed up to bankroll the winner. The partnership hopes to send a message to the world that Pittsburgh is a wonderful place to live with a reasonable cost of living, great services and amenities, and great arts and culture Spokesperson for the Experienced Dreamers is Shawn Bannon. The city of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County are sponsors but, at this point, no public money is involved.

The initiative is being managed by Leadership Pittsburgh Inc. Contributing partners include the City of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County, The Buhl Foundation, The Benedum Foundation, The Heinz Endowments, The Jewish Healthcare Foundation, The Pittsburgh Foundation and The Richard King Mellon Foundation, as well support from VisitPittsburgh.

I invite you to share your dream and its possibilities in the comment box below. I also invite you to share why you would like to live in Pittsburgh—or, for that matter, in Southwestern Pennsylvania.
