PUMPKIN PUNCH RECIPE

There’s a white pumpkin sitting on our patio. Not long from now my husband Monte will turn it into pumpkin pies for the holidays. The pumpkin, however, will yield so much pumpkin that he will have to bag it and freeze it for later.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Lunar pumpkins, they are shaped like the familiar orange pumpkins but wear a white—sometimes bluish tinged—skin over their orange flesh. It adds a nice contrast sitting amongst a group of orange pumpkins.

This year I came across recipes for pumpkin punch. I chose to try the one below, so in order not to lose the recipe I will post it. It can be spiked with a little rum for drinking adults:

PUMPKIN PUNCH

Preparation Time: 10 minutes

Makes: 24 cups

INGREDIENTS

1 can(s) 15 oz pumpkin puree

1 c. dark brown sugar

1 tsp. cinnamon

1 tsp. ground ginger

¼ tsp. nutmet

¼ teaspoon ground clove

½ gallon apple cider

1 liter ginger ale

DIRECTIONS

In a medium bowl whisk together the pumpkin, sugar, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves.

Add the apple cider and whisk until smooth and the sugar is dissolved.

Chill.

In a large punch bowl gently stir together the cider/pumpkin mixture and the ginger ale.

Serve with ice.

Other recipes I reviewed were much the same. For adult punch rum can be added.
