Maintaining Top Positions at a Former Blog Host Site

CAROLYN’S DAILY POSTS: 2011

MAINTAINING TOP POSITIONS

AT A FORMER BLOG HOST SITE

     My original host site for my blogs, proBlogs, had a reasonable setup for the purpose behind the Beanery Online Literary Magazine and my writing site. However, when the site changed ownership in 2007, it also changed its design. The new design did not meet the needs of either blog, so I changed host sites.

     While on proBlogs both sites I facilitated claimed the top hit (visitor) spots.

     I began the Beanery Online Literary Magazine blog on the new site in the fall of 2007, and my writing blog, Carolyn’s Compositions started in February, 2008

     I revisit the proBlogs site occasionally, finding consistent statistics with those I saw when I visited it a few days ago. The two sites I managed still maintain top spots—albeit, eighth (more…)

SNOWFLAKE UNIQUENESS

CAROLYN’S DAILY POSTS: 2011

SNOWFLAKE UNIQUENESS

with Monte W. Holland

 Earth has hosted more than seven billion persons…

Earth has been decorated by an uncountable number of snowflakes…

Only God could create each uniquely.

Each year since 1972 I our family has substituted a handcrafted ornament for a Christmas card. This year, 2011, I chose a snowflake cutout for a theme (it truly is truth that all we need to know we learn in kindergarten…so true, I thought, as I cut out paper folded snowflakes).

~~~~~~~~~~~~
     The snowflake is noted for its uniqueness. Each of us is made in the image of God, but are still quite unique. As startling as the similarities of appearance of Darlene to her newly discovered family members, these folks are distinctly different. You all know how different Carolyn and I are. And we are enriched by differences. When it comes to hockey, don’t expect to converse with Carolyn. I have to talk to my friend Lois. When it comes to writing, Carolyn can count on conversing with a number of friends. And yet in spite of our differences we never lose sight of the fact that we are created in God’s image and called to live responsible lives. If we celebrate Christmas, we acknowledge that Jesus came in the flesh and made all the difference in the world for us and all of humanity.
May you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
All’s Not Lost Re Bernie Fine
CAROLYN’S DAILY POSTS: 2011
 ALL’S NOT LOST RE BERNIE FINE
     Sex abuse allegations against Bernie Fine, fired assistant men’s basketball coach at Syracuse University, cannot bring charges. The legal statute of limitations on the claims of two men bar prosecution.
     In spite of this a New York district attorney found the two men who brought the charges are credible.
     However, all is not lost. People are now (more…)
SANTA’S BIRTHDAY ELF
     What does an eccentric old lady do on a birthday that falls smack-dab in the middle of the holiday season?
      Why…play elf for Santa.
     And so Elf Carolyn was reborn. Reborn, because when my children were little I assisted… (to continue reading click on Playing Santa’s Elf on My Birthday ).
.xxx Domain Site Approval & Tougher Rules on Child Porn
CAROLYN’S DAILY POSTS: 2011
.XXX DOMAIN SITE APPROVAL
&
TOUGHER RULES ON CHILD PORN
     The new .xxx domains, approved in March by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN)…are not available for purchase by the general public until Tuesday, December 6, 2011.
     ICANN is a nonprofit that oversees the Internet’s naming system. The .xxx domain indicates that the site in question is a pornographic site.
     Before the .xxx domains go public colleges and other organizations  had an advanced period in which to purchase domains. So far, groups have submitted more than 80,000 applications, with a price tag of $200 each, to purchase a domain name for a period of ten years.
     This allows the public colleges and other organizations to prevent (more…)
Enjoy Coffee in Moderation
ENJOY COFFEE IN MODERATION
     I was in my thirties before I began drinking coffee. I started the habit when I was leading domestic violence group meetings at my dining room table, and attendees forbade me from making their coffee. My schedule was so tight that I succumbed to drinking coffee during the meetings, and discovered it helped me with a physical problem.
     Since then, I have enjoyed one cup of coffee each morning while I read the daily newspaper.
     Then came the time that I spent the weekend in the hospital. I’d had symptoms of (more…)
Flight in Hot Air Balloon on Bucket List
CAROLYN’S DAILY POSTS: 2011
FLIGHT IN HOT AIR BALLOON ON BUCKET LIST
     I’ve been airlifted in a flight overseas and several small aircrafts. My first time was outside of Buffalo, New York. My friend Lisa had a pilot’s license, and she took me, my friend Pat, and my co-worker from Poland, Speschik Darzynkavich (spelling excused, please), for a flight.
     Monte and I celebrated several anniversaries by being airlifted. Twice we flew out of the airport in Trenton, Maine, to catch an eye-view picture of the landscape where one part of my ancestors settled, an area now know as Lamoine. The first time we were lucky and had a pilot who was also a photographer. He had me sit in the front seat with the window open. I put my camera strap around my neck, leaned out the window as far as possible, and activated my trigger finger. The second flight over the area we had a better concept of what we were looking for. Especially interesting were the pictures of the top of Schoodic Mountain, which we had climbed on a previous trip to Hancock County.
     The other time we were airlifted we flew over the farm belonging to Monte’s sister, Fern, and her husband, Ashton.
     I flew in a medium sized plane on January 1, 1998. Monte arranged for me to have tickets to Bangor, (more…)
Energize Yourself With A Foot/Toe Massage
CAROLYN’S DAILY POSTS: 2011
ENERGIZE YOURSELF WITH A FOOT/TOE MASSAGE
     One way to energize yourself is a foot/toe massage. The bottoms of the feet contain seven thousand nerve endings, making them the energy control room of your body, according to reflexologists.
     The toes, specifically, contain energy meridians linked to the head region.
     Gently pull the toes, pressing on the tips of each to stimulate the brain.*
PUMPKIN PUNCH RECIPE
      There’s a white pumpkin sitting on our patio. Not long from now my husband Monte will turn it into pumpkin pies for the holidays. The pumpkin, however, will yield so much pumpkin that he will have to bag it and freeze it for later.
     For those of you who are unfamiliar with Lunar pumpkins, they are shaped like the familiar orange pumpkins but (more…)
Renewing Friendships From Former Communities
CAROLYN’S DAILY POSTS: 2011
RENEWING FRIENDSHIPS FROM FORMER COMMUNITIES
     It’s been an interesting first two weeks of 11-11 (November 2011). I’ve had contact with someone from numerous communities I’ve lived in.
     On Saturday evening Kim visited. When Kim was a teenager she lived across the street from us in Hallston, Slippery Rock Township. She was in 4-H with my kids, and participated in piano, dance, and guitar lessons that were held on our property. She recalls swimming in our pond and the food pantry located in the basement of our apartment building. Her husband Dan came with her.
     Noah met Kim at a church in New Castle, where he lived when we met him. He called our house after (more…)
